Academician Pabitra Sarkar gets 3rd highest civilian award of Japan

In 1875 the Emperor Meiji of Japan started an award to honour academicians and authors, especially those who work in the fields of culture, heritage and society. This year, Kolkata’s famous academician and educationist Pabitra Sarkar will receive the 3rd highest award of Japan, ‘The Order of the Rising Sun – Gold and Silver Raze.’

Sarkar ahs been working since long in bridging a tie between India and Japan through education, academics and literature. He is also the chairman of Indo-Japan Welfare and Cultural Association. He has been to Japan a number of times and have taught Bengali to Japanese students. Sarkar is also famous in the literary circle of Japan as he has translated quite a number of Japanese plays to Bengali. The consul general of Japan will give the award to Sarkar on July 15th. We are all proud of you sir!
