Eight months. That is all it has taken The Bengal Store to spread their wings across 23 states.

You may well ask, what really is the essence of Bengal? Is there a template? No, there isn’t, but in their book, essence of Bengal is partly about products that capture the magical flavours and tastes of the state, ranging from Aam Kasundi (mango mustard paste) to Nolen Gur (liquid jaggery) to raw honey from the Sundarbans to Kodbel Achar (pickled wood apples) to aromatic Radhatilak rice, all of it completely organic, chemical-free, and natural. And this is only part of what is on offer.

Ceramic Tea Set

Plenty of care goes into the selection of each product that The Bengal Store offers. The name Radhatilak, for instance, refers to the folklore surrounding Lord Krishna and his eternal consort Radha, and is endearingly believed to be her rice of choice. The short-grain strong aromatic variety is para-boiled, and procured from the farmers of South Bengal.

Then again, the raw honey that they source from the Sundarbans has a history of hardship and immense courage behind it. The ‘mauli’ (traditional name for honey collectors) who go into the forest to gather honey are always vulnerable to tiger attacks, and despite several precautions, attacks that sometimes result in death are never far away.

Galar Putul

Then again, the essence of Bengal lies in its amazing handicraft items, many of which have faded from the public space with the advent of time. However, they are fighting to keep these arts alive, and their range of ceramic items, and such rare decorative pieces as Galar Putul (shellac dolls), Heem Putul and Rani Putul (clay dolls from various districts) reflect both the state’s history and culture.

Paintings by artists of Bengal

Plenty of care goes into the selection of each product that The Bengal Store offers. The name Radhatilak.

For the contemporary touch, you can always explore their collection of paintings and healthcare/wellness products, not to mention the fashionable lifestyle range. Again, all of it is natural, eco-friendly, and as organic as our extremely talented team of craftspeople and artists can make it.
