After Kanyashree, comes up Bangla Gramin Abas Yojna

After the success of Kanyashree and Sabuj Sathi, the West Bengal government has come up with another innovative project called Bangla Gramin Abas Yojna, that is set to touch the lives of around five lakh people living in rural Bengal. The project will be officially inaugurated by the chief minister on January 29, followed by all BDOs and district magistrates of different districts, inaugurating the programme in their respective areas.

People residing in different parts of the state would be entitled to this benefit. Around three lakh people had already received assistance for building houses under the ‘Geetanjali’ scheme. The State Government also declared a number of prizes under different categories. Burdwan East and West Burdwan were declared joint winners of ‘Nirmal Jela (Clean Districts) award. After a base level survey of the two districts, it was found that four lakh forty thousand one hundred and thirteen toilets were constructed. The ‘Krishi-Ratna’ Award was conferred on 103 farmers.

Banerjee also announced a Rs 3,000-crore north-south corridor project which will pass through Burdwan district, and a Rs 2,768-crore project to extend the reach of the irrigation facilities to the western districts of the state. “The farmers are our assets. We have paid a compensation of Rs 1,200 crore to those farmers affected by floods. Around 79 lakh Kisan Credit Cards (KCCs) have also been distributed, the banks have been asked to give more loans against these KCCs,” announced Banerjee. Ten camps and 186 ‘kisan bazaars’ were set up by her government for paddy procurement in the state. A textile hub is also coming up at Saktigarh soon and that the work on an NTPC power plant is underway at Katwa. Teenage girls, who had taken initiatives to stop child marriages in their respective areas were also awarded.
