Technology helped this hearing-speech impaired couple find love

Well, social media can unify two souls and that’s what a speech-and-hearing impaired couple from Bengal proved. Tulsi Sharma of Birbhum and small-time merchant Subhendu Saha are both  speech-and-hearing impaired, but that did not deter them from expressing their feelings for each other online!

Tulsi is an inspiration for all. Despite her challenges, she continued her studies and completed her secondary education from a school in Kolkata for special children. She went back to her village and took admission in Ahmedpur Durga Balika Vidyalaya, close to her house for her higher secondary education. Meanwhile, she joined in her family’s wielding business and even operated a machine at home. Her father, Gurupada was very worried about his daughter’s future.

Tulsi met Subhendu, eight years her senior, on the Facebook app around seven months ago. And since phone calls, a mainstay of long-distance relationships, were of no use to them, because of their impairment, love blossomed through newer-age tech: through messages on social media, and sign-language video conversations. They carried out a Facebook courtship that culminated in happy matrimony unlike many others where women are duped.

Technology aided Tulsi overcome every obstruction she had known. Her parents were overjoyed when she broke the news. Her father considers the alliance as ‘God’s will’and was hopeful that the two would share great empathy. Subhendu’s family hails from Jiaganj in Murshidabad district. Subhendu also completed graduation and runs a small grocery store. In the past his father too, was worried about the future of his ‘special’ child but now that his son ties the knot and begins his next innings, both families are relieved. And both families are all praise for technology and social media that brought these two souls together.
