Bengal’s MR Bangur given India’s Best District Hospital tag by Niti Aayog

The Niti Aayog has certified MR Bangur Hospital as the best district hospital in the country for the year 2018-19. ‘This tag was given for 2018-19 as the survey was done before the Pandemic. Various factors were considered such as bed turnover rate, OPD attendance, inpatient stay, comfort and overall management,’ said Dr Sisir Naskar, Superintendent, MR Bangur Hospital.

The West Bengal health department received a letter to this effect on Monday. The assessment was made before the Covid-19 pandemic. Factors such as different areas of medical treatment and overall patient satisfaction post-treatment were among the criteria considered for certification by the Niti Aayog. ‘The assessment was made before the Covid-19 pandemic. The hospital worked towards a desired outcome. We have been able to do a lot over a period of time. The patients too are very happy as they received good treatment here,’ added Dr Naskar.

In fact, MR Bangur Hospital has many feathers to its cap. Even during the COVID-19 2nd wave, it became the first government Covid facility to introduce virtual visiting hours for its patients. Patients in isolation wards were given a chance to interact with their families on video-calls on mobiles provided by doctors and nurses. Situated in the heart of Tollygunge the imposing white structure of MR Bangur Hospital houses multispecialty wards catering for free to several patients who come from across the state. It has also stood out as a government COVID hospital during the Pandemic.
