WBTDCL celebrates Pochishe Boishakh with Thakurbarir Ranna – GetBengal story

In a heartfelt tribute to Rabindranath Tagore on the occasion of Pochishe Boishakh, the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation Ltd. (TDCL) will be curating a one-of-a-kind event—‘Banglar Sarbikayana: Thakurbari Ranna’—reviving the nostalgic flavours of the Tagore household through carefully designed thali experiences. The event marks the continuation of TDCL’s year-long calendar of culturally themed activities, following the vibrant celebrations of Poila Boishakh.
The event will be taking place from 9th to 11th May 2025 at lunch and dinner across TDCL’s key tourist lodges: Shantiniketan (Bolpur), MangalDhara (Barrackpore), Bishnupur, and Udayachal (Head Office of WBTDC, Bidhannagar). The event is designed to bring together history, heritage, and hospitality in a way that only Bengal can.
“Such events are not just celebrations. They are opportunities to experience Bengal’s heritage and culture—be it cuisine, music, or atmosphere,” shared Debanjana Saha, who is supervising the event across all four TDCL properties. “The idea is to ensure continuity in tourism engagement while reflecting the unique soul of each location.” She also added.
The decor of the event is thoughtfully curated to evoke the refined Rabindrik sensibility—with verses of Tagore’s poetry adorning the space, the gentle strains of Rabindra Sangeet in the background, the fragrance of rajanigandha flowers, elegant terracotta plating, and warm, ambient lighting. Together, each venue will be transformed into a graceful tribute to Bengal’s timeless cultural renaissance.
This effort is part of TDCL’s broader strategy to integrate Bengal’s culture into hospitality. With 40 properties across Bengal, these programmes not only enrich the guest experience but also increase visibility and engagement across TDCL destinations.
The culinary centrepiece of the event is a thoughtfully designed series of Tagore-themed thalis that are also within reach of normal people. There is also a 10% discount on bookings for groups of four people.
Aam porar shorbot (welcome drink), Luchi, Cholar Daal, Shukto, pPosto, Muger Daal, and other dishes are included in the special vegetarian thali known as "Chokher Bali" (Rs. 525/-). Mishti paan and ‘Hemkonikar’ payesh of Thakurbari are served as a finishing touch.
A special Fish Thali called "Punoshcho" (Rs. 660/-) includes traditional sweets like Dorbesh and Sor Raabdi of Thakurbari along with delicacies like Goyna Bori, Basanti Pulao, Shorshe Pabda, and Doi Katla/Chingri Malaicurry.
"Ghore Baire" (Rs. 630) is a unique chicken thali that features traditional dishes like Kancha Aam er Chatni and Goalondo Fowl Curry.
Kochi Panthar Jhol of Thakurbari is featured in the Special Mutton Thali "Shesher Kobita," which costs Rs. 750.
WBTDCL is also planning a vibrant celebration around Jamai Shoshthi, further deepening its commitment to showcasing Bangaliana—the essence of Bengal’s rich cultural identity.
With these initiatives, TDCL is reinforcing its commitment to heritage-led hospitality and turning every event into an opportunity to explore Bengal through its senses. From music to menu, Thakurbari Ranna was not just about food, it will be a celebration of identity, memory, and belonging.
